Name Dyoplosaurus
Means Double armoured lizard
Period Late Cretaceous
Where Canada: Alberta
Size Length: 20 feet
Height: 6 feet
Weight: 4,409 lbs

First named in 1924 as Dyoplosaurus the name fell into disuse in the early 1970s when it was thought that Dyoplosaurus was actually another member of the ankylosaurid family, Euoplocephalus. Recent re-examination of the specimen in 2008 concluded that it was a distinct species and the name has been resurrected.

Ankylosaurs, squat and low in stature, are easily identifiable due to the armoured plating of fused bone which covered the body and heavy tail club that could inflict maximum damage during combat. The tail club itself was composed of several armoured plates that were fused together.
